Organic/organic/etc., what's the difference?
As you may have heard us say many times, our mints are: organic, 100% natural, vegan and allergen-free. But hey, what's the difference between these and don't we just say the same thing 4 times? Below we explain the differences.
Organic
Organic stands for the way the food is produced, the agricultural process. An organic farming method consists of taking plants, people and animals into account. Organic food must meet certain guidelines to receive a quality mark such as the EKO and European Organic quality mark. If you would like to read more information about how Max's Mints produces organically, read our blog post 'Why are Max's Mints organic (and better)?.
Organic
Here it gets a little more difficult because organic is often used as a derivative of the English word 'organic'. Organic literally means organic. However, organic means something different in Dutch. This means that it comes from plants and animals. An organic product is therefore not always organic!
Vegan
Veganism is a lifestyle that renounces all forms of exploitation and cruelty to animals for food, clothing or other purposes. This means that vegans do not eat meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey, gelatin, animal e-numbers and other products that contain animal products.
Allergen free
An allergen is a substance that causes allergic reactions in people who are sensitive to it. Legally, there are 14 substances: gluten-containing grains, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soy, milk, nuts, celery. mustard, sesame seeds, sulfur dioxide and sulphite, lupine and molluscs.
Well, it's all just that! Quite a few requirements that products have to meet these days! It takes some effort, but we actually don't think this is more than normal. Our products should be available to everyone!
Mint you soon!
